hardscape design: seat walls & planters

Whether it is a low wall to add seating, a retaining wall to create level use areas, or simply the defined edges of a planting bed, a hardscape design that is created with artistic vision and technical expertise can add value to your property.

  • For Ballenger and Carlyle Place projects within the Carlyle neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia, Elizabeth prepared hardscape detailing as part of a multi disciplinary team at Pennoni.  The designs feature brick seat walls with pre-cast caps, a stone planter seat wall with flagstone cap, and precast curbing.

  • For the hardscape design for Arrowbrook in Herndon, Virginia, as a lead project designer at Pennon; Elizabeth prepared design and detailing. Stone seat walls with precast cap and extensive stone retaining walls and steps allow for level use areas and are complemented by the flagstone sidewalks, concrete textured sidewalks, brick crosswalks, site furnishings, and site lighting.

  • And for Carlyle Block G, hardscape and landscape design with Pennoni included free-standing pots with rotations of annuals and evergreens to add seasonal color.

A stone or brick seat wall can define a space or add  an accent  in the landscape; but especially it creates  a quiet spot to relax, and to observe nature or activities in a park or urban space.
